{ F.A.S.H.I.O.N } Twirling in the 1950s

Hello beautiful people!

When Shubdha sent me this dress as part of her new Sustainable collection , it was a surprise again !
And what a brilliant surprise- this dress screamed retro with an indian twist .You know my love for all things retro! I never leave an opportunity to create something that opens an old time capsule . So while i did my research , I came across this article on the evolution of women's dressing and this style was very 1950s indeed, except that it had Indian elements like the Angarkha Neck and dainty floral embroidery- such a delight .

And so began the task of searching a retro location and what better than a Movie set which was made to mimick the 1950s ! This set was made for a movie and is now open to public on weekends ! Oh google, how I love you ! About an hour's drive from Johannesburg , this makes for a great photo location . However, there is nothing to do here except take pictures. Its a really small set and houses a cafe with milkshakes. If you happen to go here for a shoot, you can go to Harteebeespoort town next door to enjoy the dam as well as visit the cafes around!

This was my last shoot in South Africa and it was a bitter sweet moment ! I was in pain due to lower back issues, the skin virus that still hasn't left and the task of shifting countries again! Nonetheless , the show must go on ! And this dress, uplifted my mood as you can see . I finally smiled because this dress was such a joy - cosy organic cotton layers and that fabulous flare - Enjoy the pictures. And no matter which part of the world you are reading from , Juanita ships worldwide. Isn't that awesome! NOW NOW, if you did read till here, I have to give you a BIG BIG HUG and air kisses because , i think the world of blogging with words is becoming passe. Tell me what do you think ?

Hello beautiful people

I am back to India and what better than a style post with indian wear to start this new innings.

As much as i missed the wonderful Indian spices, i missed the overflowing cloth markets!

In countries outside india, malls are the only places where you get clothes. Its only in India that we have such a huge variety of locally made clothes, fleamarkets , fashion boutiques and the likes!

Whenever i did see designer pop-ups in South africa , the clothes made from cotton were at a premium. We don't realise how we take our lovingly cultivated cotton for granted which otherwise comes at a premium price tag in other countries. Its because we live in abundance !

Synthetic fabrics are everywhere and easy to work with , but the real gems are these handwoven fabrics. India not only has an abundance of cotton, but also skilled weavers who create wearable melodies out of them .

Putting their work on the forefront and creating slow fashion pieces you'll treasure is what i love most about JUANITA.

Just about everything she creates is simple yet regal . As always she picked this Khadi linen Kurta from her latest collection and it was a surprise until it reached me. Those who have been following me for a while know that i wear indian styles only on festive occasions , but Juanita makes me fall in love with Indian-wear irrespective of occasions ! Remember the chanderi silk suit? See here if you haven't.

I have cinched this burgundy Kurta at the waist with a belt and i totally love this silhouette . The pants look regal in their Bananas silk weave and i can totally see myself wearing them with a white blouse too! I have not worn any statement pieces in this look because the statement sleeves and the silk pants are a statement in themselves !

When you wear a Juanita , everything looks effortlessly chic ! Hope you love the look as much as i did !Also , can you tell I shot this in a funny 13 degree weather with a strong sun!

{F.A.S.H.I.O.N} Namaste Juanita

Hey folks!

Hope you are enjoying the Namaste series with fresh homegrown fashion from India. This shoot is special as its one of my favourite slow fashion brands i have been endorsing from the last one year. I have previously worn it here and here. Don't forget to check those posts and read about our featured designer Shubhda Priyam whose label "Juanita" dishes out elegant pieces in premium handwoven fabrics from Benaras season on season . I cant recommend her classic pieces enough as its super easy to style them with accessories you may already have .

I shot this look with a frozen back as i couldn't make you wait more for the 3rd in this series . As i walked in this huge park, i kept changing between my flats and my heels to avoid strain on my back. With a snail's pace and my patient photographer , we finally shot this! Oh The things we do for the love of blogging! I am not a salwar kurta fan but when i saw this Chanderi silk piece i could imagine myself in this ! The fabric is gorgeous and the pants are chic so you can still it in a contemporary fashion with a belt as well. I really hope you like the concept and the styling . In this post i am wearing a T&J boutique Kundan set we combined for this look. Both the choker and the neckpiece are such beauties - if you follow me on instagram you remember voting a 100% for these pieces. I am in love with their craftsmanship . { E.D.I.T.O.R.I.A.L} Songs of my garden - II

"Seasons came and seasons went ... waiting in vain for that unknown scent .
Never a glimpse , never a hint - all I hear is my cuckoo clock sing ...
Maybe the nightdress shouldn’t have wrestled the thorns ,
Maybe you thought I wouldn’t like you around ... And so I preen everyday , in my favorite cotton dress with a smile to match the Christmas roses...

Seasons came and seasons went...roses bloomed and daisies sang.
Surrounded with Bees and dancing wasps ...
The villagers could smell the dreamiest patch .
Hot-cross buns and crotchet handkerchiefs , the vendors came to catch a glimpse...
A mix of rhubarb and coffee beans , I'm sipping on endless cups lest i don't sleep
Will i ever see you to be at peace???"

Hello Folks and i hope you are enjoying the dreamy "Songs of my garden" series . As a matter of fact i would've myself slipped into a daydream while sorting these dreamy pictures - I'm so glad Nik and me make the best team - as much as he despises the camera , he's improving at the game! As we step into 2019, there will be more looks in this series.

This look was shot on our longest vacation ever . This is where we stayed in a village called Greyton - which -hold your breath - claims to have wild horses roaming the streets! I was hoping to get a pic with them , but they were rare when we spent a night in here . However this guesthouse has become my favourite - one of the most beautiful places i have stayed in !

" Songs of my garden "is a poetic-vintage take on simple flowy fabrics - this series is here to un-complicate fashion. All you need is a great fabric and a color that complements your skin- and voila - you look like a princess with minimal embellishment.

Featuring another piece from Delhi-based conscious designer brand "Juanita", this post is an ode to all things dreamy .
