Nautical Fashion 2012: Part 3 Colored denims

After Part1 and Part2 of the Nautical fashion series, here i bring you another style dedicated to the
trend that will never die.
Like i had said earlier, this is a tribute to Coco Chanel who introduced this trend for women .I will keep
this series going (as most of you requested) till her Birthday month i.e August .

To any element that wants some 'life & love' add a flower.
If stripes seem plain to you, add a floral touch, either with accessories or let the print do it for you!
Florals and stripes work beautifully in harmony. In fact, many fabric prints use this combination.
It combines the femininity of flowers with the smartness of stripes.
Add colored denims, and its a whole new happy outfit for you .
Since choosing stripes is easy, let us concentrate on the bottoms- the colored denims.

Colored denims- not your thing?

Most people avoid risking their wardrobe with a colored denim.
Luckily, people have now started embracing them ,thanks to their availability and people
like you and me who want this cheery & colorful addition.
One of the reasons why people avoid colored bottoms is because they feel there are limited ways
of styling one.
But believe me, once you start wearing them, you will realise they can be quite versatile.
Colored denims go very well with striped tops. Its either white or its stripes.
Although unlike your classical blue denims, colored denims have to be chosen with care.

How to chose the colored denim that suits you?

I'll save you the complex exercise of identifying your skintone etc.etc,to identify the right shades.
Instead, I will quote Leatrice Eiseman, author of The Color Answer Book ($10,amazon.com) and director of the Pantone Color Institute( Remember the post on Pantone color of the year, here ?), the international authority on color.
"Some colors work for all skin tones and hair colors, because they fall into the middle of the color spectrum, meaning they're not too warm or too cool," says Leatrice Eiseman

She lists the 4 universally flattering clothing colors.
And i believe these are the 4 colors that are the safest bet irrespective of your skin-tone!
Buy any denim from this color chart , and you my darlings, will rock the colored denim trend like you never did before!
4 women with different skin tones donning the 4 magic colors .

COLOR 1: Eggplant

COLOR 2: True Red

COLOR 3: Indian Teal

COLOR 4: Mellow Rose

Remember, pick any denim in one of these shades, and it will definitely be fail-safe.

My love affair with florals- 2006

The year - 2006
Profession- Student ( IIIrd yr B.E)
Hobbies  - Hunting for stylish clothes at throwaway prices in the wonder city called -Nanded( Maharashtra)

I'm super-excited to share my outfit photos from the year 2006. I spent four years of my life in this town called Nanded where i completed my graduation.
4 years of washing my own clothes in the hostel at 3 a.m in the night. Why ?
There were only 3 bathrooms between 40 people !!! Hehe. Sounds fun doesn't it?!

More about my hostel days later.I loved to collect colorful clothes back then in 2006.Feels dated,eh?
What you will see is that i give accessories a complete miss ;the complete focus is on the dress, footwear and my favorite black sports watch .

Here are my favorite trends:

# 1

Give blue jeans a break.Look for earthy shades with a slight flare!
Ditch the Tees.Go for Flutter wrap blouses.Umm...a big word.
The blouse i'm wearing here is a wrap blouse with flutters at the bottom.
Femininity at its peak!

#2

Denim capris are fun.How about trying them in shades other than black /blue?
Another Floral blouse which is supposed to be off-shoulders :)
Peep-toes get an airy twist with their strappy cousin and vertical slits.

Halter neck black & white floral dress.
Give a break to the good old LBD
Its the LBWD :)

Exaggeration is the king!
Oversized sleeves were big besides a distracting V-cut blouse
White was my favorite even then.I loved my white sandals from BATA :)

I didn't even spare my lounge wear from florals :)
Top, pyjama and the roses .Picture Perfect!

1960 ish

Romancing the breeze...

'Our dreams, drifting in the stream of the vague, stretch their
arms to clutch the earth, -their efforts stiffen into bricks and
stones, and thus the city of man is built.'

- From Lover's Gifts LVIII, Rabindranath Tagore

One such structure is the 17th Century 'Castella de Aguada' - or popularly known as Bandra Fort
at Land's end ,Bandra.
The breeze carries the peacefulness of a baby sleeping in her mother's arms.
Bliss, you cannot miss!
I had the spicy Chana chor garam in paper cones and enjoyed the journey
of the drowning sun in pinkish hues.

Its been sometime and i have been busy with so many things! But here i was excited to do a new shoot for you all.
With such vivid earthy elements, I almost blended with my background !

Earthy colors are perfect for any skin-tone.
Just remember to get the right shades.
Brighter shades of greens and browns are perfect for dusky skin-tones while dull shades look best
on pinkish skin-tones.
Pairing earthy bottoms is breezy-easy. Use all your whites, blacks, floral prints with shades of browns and
greens.

Like i said its good to color your bottoms with all your favorite colors especially when Spring
is round the corner. It not only refreshes your look but uplifts your mood.
Come out of your blue jeans and black trousers.Surprise yourself with colorful bottoms :)
Also, green here reminds me that it could be the perfect way to wish you a Happy Republic Day!

I'm dying to see how you do that. And guess what, the best entry will be featured on the blog.
So rush your entries by February , the 14th  .Welcoming women's as well as Men's wear.

Till then , i shall plan another visit to this beautiful place. To catch more glimpses of the shoot visit

Breezy Faux Winter!

'There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. '
                                                                                          ~Alfred Wainwright

Mumbai has been hot inspite of October being a promising month at least for some time.
December is when i can't resist doing posts on winter fashion.
So for the faux Mumbai winter, lets dress up in cosy and highly tailored outfits.

Match me with the sky

Top: Flowy full-sleeves tunics in synthetic fabrics or knits for cooler temperatures tailored to perfection.

Bottom :  Tights  in winter shades like black, indigo, magenta, violet or bold prints like leopard prints  and even florals. (for Mumbai )
        * Printed tights , available at Vero Moda.
In case of cooler climates, try the woolen tights.

Footwear:  I know the footwear makes you wonder what it is supposed to be called and where it came from ! As the weather is 'faux', i call it a faux pair of boots. This is a 'sock sandle' where its sandal +leg warmer/socks and has a tiny wedge heel!
This suits Mumbai weather as it lets your feet breathe !
Though it may whip up extreme reactions, its upto you to love them or hate them!I await your reactions to this one :)

For a cooler weather , try leg warmers and a pair of black/grey/brown/ taupe/olive  (suede ) flat/heeled boots to add the funk.

The oriental print in the tunic inspired a pretty addition of a pink Japanese Parasol with cherry blossom tree hand-painted on it !
Infact the Red- beads are a reminder of big ripe cherries !

I love all things oriental and cherry-blossomy :)
I will soon post the tiny oriental charms i treasure !

Till next time, wear your best tights and tunics to welcome the winters...!

I await your precious comments . Let the love flow...

Statement Kolhapuris !

Its November and Mumbai is still basking in the glory of the Sun GOD. I have been trying my best to welcome the Mumbai winters (lol) , i mean temperatures that drop below 30 degrees :)
The heat doesn't give up.So i decided to fight the heat.

I don't want to tie my hair.Come sweat, i have a tissue and more!

So here's my favourite combination of skinny(u heard it right !)cotton trousers in pastel blue teamed with a
tailored floral print shirt tucked in.The colors are cool summer colors like white, blue, silver(belt).
This look is ideal for a semi-formal meeting or Friday dressing. What makes this look chic is the traditional leather Kolhapuri wedges with traditional colors:  rust , green and golden!Combine this with a leather messenger bag and you are good to go .

Kolhapuris and skinny trousers make a super-smart combination when you want to look simple and yet
dressed up!
You can also team kolhapuri wedges with skinny jeans or flowy floor-length skirts.
If your kolhapuris have statement colors like the ones in mine, try not to wear bold colors in your outfit
or it will draw the attention away from the kolhapuris.Keep your dress prints simple to hihglight the wedges.
Try pastel shades and lots of whites.Accessorise with statement pieces like a big beaded necklace!

Shirt-Colaba | Skinny trousers- Janpath ,Delhi | Kolhapuri wedges-Colaba | Bag-Dooney & Bourke

Try this before the heat goes away! Till next time....Byeeee :)
